A good night for young people.

9 02 2007

“A really good night” – that was the view of the 100 people or so who attended the official launch yesterday of the 2007 What Now? Handbook and CD Rom.gibber_7.jpg

The event was held at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor and guests were welcomed by Youth Advisor Arron Taylor and later by Katherine Ashworth, assistant head of the youth service in Lancashire, who spoke about the development of the service and the important role played by information and advice services such as What Now?

Guests attending the launch could choose to attend workshops run by Doncaster Youth Service and Lancashire’s What Now? service to learn about how young people have been instrumental in developing the different elements of the What Now? Service – including the book, CD Rom and range of interactive services.

gibber_5.jpgThe highlight of the evening was a special What Now? Themed performance by Gibber (see below), one of the UK’s leading theatre groups for young people, who entertained with their take on Big Brother and The Weakest Link, spiced up with some impromptu audience participation!

The launch was a Lancashire Beacon event and was an excellent example of the positive youth engagement work that has contributed to Lancashire County Council gaining the prestigious Beacon status.

Congratulations to the team for a well organised event and to Arron and the group for the work undertaken over the last few months on the Handbook and CDrom
The website’s next and comments are welcome on how this should function in the best way for young people looking for information.
Well done

I attended the workshops by Doncaster Youth Service and Gibber.

It was fantastic to see how well Doncaster Youth Service publicise their services and intergate them with What Now? services.

Gibber once again put on a fantastic performance (very funny but informative).

The launch was a really well organised event with some informative workshops. I especially enjoyed the performance by Gibber. I felt they introduced the importance of the What Now? handbook and CD ROM in a really fun way which engaged with young people. Well, definately those sat close to me who were in fits of laughter!!! I want to say a special thank you to Aaron who is a Youth Advisor for getting up and speaking in front of over 100 people. Your a star Mr Taylor!!
